Alan gets the New Year off to a great start!

By Kevin Goldsmith • January 2nd, 2011

With the return of milder conditions, Alan Wilkie decided to have a day’s fishing on the River Ivel at Sandy. The river was in near perfect conditions with a steady flow and only a small amount of floating debris on the surface. He adopted for a mobile approach fishing each likely swim for a few hours before moving on to try another. Bread flake was Alan’s chosen bait fished in conjunction with the odd ball of liquidized bread designed to attract any feeding fish. His tactics paid dividends as Alan went on to catch three good-sized chub weighing 4lb 1oz, 4lb 7oz and 4lb 11oz. Late in the day, he returned to one of his earlier swims opting this time to use some smelly cheese paste as bait. A single bite was enough to give Alan his best fish of the day, a super 5lb 6oz chub.
