John can’t stop smiling since catching a new p.b.!
Whilst many anglers have been struggling to get to grips with the dense weed beds that are covering much of the lake, John Hayden has found Gingerbread Lake much to his liking. On a recent trip, John broke the 30lb barrier after catching a 35lb 2oz linear mirror carp. This fish has put on around 5lbs in weight over the last two years no doubt taking advantage of the abundant amount of rich wood available.
Ladies rule at first Open Day!
The first of two Open Days was held at McGregor Lake and once again all who attended caught plenty of fish. The event was sponsored by Walker’s Pitch and the highlight of the day was four ladies fishing in adjacent swims all thoroughly enjoying both the fishing and the glorious weather. There were hot and cold drinks available throughout the day as well and crisps and other snacks too. The Environment Agency provided an aquarium so that the fish caught could be studied until the end of the day when they were all safely returned to the lake.
First catches from Grace Lake
Simon Carr, proprietor of Walker’s Pitch, took his young son with him to BHAA’s newly-opened fishery, Grace Lake.They found a swim that had been previously dragged and opted to float fish close to the margins. Simon said they were well pleased to catch three good-sized tench in quick succession to just under 4lbs and even had fish rolling in the swim for much of the time. Members wishing to fish this venue are reminded that it is heavily weeded so dragging of swims is desirable.
