Neil blitzes Ivel chub

By Anthony Pogmore • March 3rd, 2014

The River Ivel has been practically unfishable for much of the month swollen by the constant rain and sometimes flooding the neighbouring fields. In the last couple of weeks it was fishable again as the flood water abated and BHAA’s Chairman, Neil Sampson, took full advantage of the situation. He caught two chub over 6lbs, 6lb 1oz and 6lb 9oz, the latter being a new personal best. In addition, Neil has managed to catch three different chub all weighing 5lb 15oz from different club stretches and a 5lb 7oz chub when he ventured on to a fast flowing River Ouse. David Rawlings caught a 5lb 1oz chub fishing the Common stretch of the Ivel downstream of Biggleswade. He fished a maggot feeder with maggots as hook bait too.

Gingerbread Lake recorded its biggest pike of the winter when a member banked a 20lb specimen which makes it the third BHAA venue to produce 20lb plus pike this season. Barry Fox fished for a few hours during the week as was soon into a decent pike, a 9lb specimen.

Swan Lake has produced carp to over 20lbs in the last two weeks with most, if not all, of the action coming in the hours of darkness. Bailiff Luke Garner reported that carp were crashing on the surface all over Swan Lake at night

During the week, around 160 carp are to be stocked into McGregor Lake and a further 40 fish will be introduced into Gingerbread Lake to improve sport for the future. BHAA will be holding its AGM on Wednesday, the 19th of March at Biggleswade Rugby Club when members will be able to ascertain answers to questions raised from board members responsible for running the club’s affairs.
