Strong winds do no favours!

Near gale force winds for much of the week seemed to have put fish off the feed when normally one would expect them to be feeding avidly in such conditions.

Alan Wilkie managed to notch up his 20th carp of the year from New Road Lake after spotting a solitary fish crashing out on the windward side of the lake. Alan cast out a mini boily and soon had a take from a low double mirror carp.

Mark Horspool continued his onslaught at Gingerbread Lake catching carp of 21lbs and 17lbs plus some bonus tench during his latest overnight session. Other anglers reported bream and tench to be feeding well at night with the former around the double-figure mark. This week, club members have built some new swims in the centre part of the lake facing the channel with car parking available close by.

A new member, Neil Williamson, decided to start off by pole-fishing at McGregor Lake where he enjoyed some great sport throughout the day catching plenty of roach and skimmers. Also, he landed a 7lb 7oz linear mirror carp that tested his pole elastic to the limit.

Fisheries officer Martin Crouch continued his early season series of visits to BHAA’s river stretches and this week he made to the long trek to Campers’ Meadow on the River Ouse at Tempsford. Martin’s efforts were repaid by the capture of a nice 2lb 2oz perch from this little-fished stretch (below).

Please note that any requests for casual night fishing should be made to the Membership Secretary from the 19th to 26th of July.
