Last throw does the business!

Willy Woodfield fished two nights and days at Gingerbread Lake without a bite despite seeing signs of carp in his swim. He decided to fish a final night in one of his favourite in another part of the lake. The move worked and Willy enjoyed some terrific action on his last day landing mirrors weighing 33lb 5oz, 27lb 4oz and 16lb and a common of 26lb 14oz using his homemade boilies. He said that he lost an even bigger carp that flat lined his rod as it powered away from him finally breaking his line when it found a sharp object. Rob Hammond landed the angular shaped common carp nicknamed ‘The Warrior’ weighing an impressive 29lbs 12oz.

A single run on a sunny day produced a super 27lb 14oz mirror carp for John Murphy when he fished at New Road Lake where many anglers have found it hard going of late. Quality roach continue to provide an alternative species to target though with maggots being one of the more successful baits.

Winston Pogmore caught his biggest carp from McGregor Lake this year, a 12lb 4oz mirror showing that the fish stocked by the club are starting to put on some serious weight. For the twitchers amongst you, hobbies have been seen chasing swallows, house martins and dragon flies, a sure sign that autumn is upon us. Also, regular sightings of buzzards are being made as they soar above the lakes most days.

Well known angler and club member Tony Miles recently caught an 11lb 4oz barbel fishing the club’s stretch on the River Ouse at Manor Farm, Lavendon. The club is hoping to carry out some track repairs here so please keep a look out on the website as a few extra helpers would be most welcome. Also, work is soon to begin on the creation of a dedicated parking area at Priory Farm, Harrold within easy reach of the swims.
