Three 30s caught at Gingerbread Lake

The recent stocking of some new carp into Gingerbread Lake seems to have enlivened the water as plenty of carp have been caught from all around the lake. A tench angler was fishing in ‘two-bar’ bay when he saw a big fish top in an area difficult to cast two. Nevertheless, he managed to cast a boily into the area where the fish had surfaced and, before long, he had a run. The fish was landed and turned out to be a 38lb near leather mirror carp, one of the lake’s biggest residents. Steve Bull has continued his run of big carp with his latest capture, a 31lb common carp known as the ‘long common’ which he caught on corn over a bed of freebies. Steve also caught a 13lb mirror carp on a surface fished bait. Michael Cooney fished in the factory bay and was confident of catching as there were signs of carp activity around his swim. Michael went on to catch an immaculate 30lb linear mirror carp and was unlucky to lose another good fish. Dale Walters fished the ‘dugout’ swim and enjoyed plenty of action landing 5 carp to just over 20lbs plus a couple of big bream. Paul Webb always comes up with something out of the ordinary and this week it was a 4lb 4oz eel that took his lobworm bait in the bridge bay. Tench angler Matthew Jellis was well pleased to land two big tench, one weighing just under 8lbs and the other closer to 9lbs as well as a 10lb common carp that tested his tackle. Anthony Pogmore also caught a good-sized tench around 7lbs using a method feeder and plastic corn. Overall, it was a bit of a strange week though with some days carp being seen cruising the surface and on other days not a sign of a fish anywhere.

Big bream haul from New Road Lake

Alan Wilkie decided to target the big bream that inhabit New Road Lake and scaled his tackle down accordingly by using only small hook. Fishing into the light wind it was not long before Alan had his first taste of action, a cracking 10lb 6oz bream. This encouraged him to settle himself down for an overnight session which proved to be a hectic affair. Alan went on to land bream weighing 8lb 12oz, 11lb 2oz, 11lb 5oz, 11lb 6oz and 12lbs plus a bonus mirror carp of 13lb 8oz. A return visit saw him land two more bream including a 10lb 4oz specimen and a ‘baby’ of 6lbs. Pike angler James Hopper was pleased to break a p.b. with a 10lb 3oz bream whilst John Murphy added to his growing tally of carp with a 14lb 4oz mirror. Fraser Hayden fished an overnight session baiting his swim with a mixture of pellets and corn combined with broken boilies. Fraser went on to land a 19lb 8oz mirror and a 9lb 4oz bream Neil Large has been quietly enjoying some success at the lake with a best mirror weighing 28lbs so far. A guest of Mike Hames float-fished alongside the small island and caught quality roach and rudd throughout the day with hardly a minute’s break without some action. Barry Fox caught a 13lb mirror but his grandson, Lewis Vereeque took the honours when he landed a 9lb 14oz bream using 14mm chocolate malt boilies.

Neil lands a new p.b. common!

Club chairman Neil Sampson fished overnight at Gingerbread Lake catching two common carp and a tench. One of the commons was ‘Cut-tail’ which weighed in at 30lb 8oz beating Neil’s p.b. by nearly a pound. His other carp weighed 17lbs. During the week, the club introduced around 40 carp into Gingerbread Lake with help from Mainstream Fisheries Ltd. Most of the fish were around the 10lb mark although a couple were 20lb plus.

Martin sets a new lake record!

Fisheries officer Martin Crouch enjoyed two hectic sessions at BHAA’s New Road Lake including setting a new official lake record when he landed a 31lb 2oz mirror carp. During his first overnight session he had seven takes landing all seven fish. They included the new record fish and mirrors weighing 24lb 14oz, 22lb 4oz, 19lb 8oz and three doubles. Also, he caught a 20lb 2oz common carp. A return visit to the venue proved to be an even more hectic affair when during a 24-hour session Martin landed 8 more carp including mirrors weighing 21lb 4oz, and 22lb 14oz and a big common weighing 25lb 3oz. The remaining fish were all doubles. John Murphy struggled to find the carp but was well pleased to land a 10lb 2oz bream on his last visit of the week.
