Luke Garner confirmed the presence of big eels at Swan Lake when he set a new lake record by catching a 5lb 12oz specimen. Head bailiff Dave Hallybone fished over a bed of particles to catch a 26lb mirror carp as boilies failed to provide much action for other anglers. Dennis Smith targeted yet another species of fish when he float-fished at the lake catching more than 20lbs of immaculately conditioned roach averaging around the 12oz mark.
Earlier in the week, Dennis visited Gingerbread Lake and decided to fish in one of the swims in the factory bay. Again, he found roach and rudd feeding in profusion which kept him busy for most of the day.
The work at McGregor Lake has resulted in the creation of several luxurious swims that should provide anglers with comfortable fishing throughout the year and two good-sized car parking areas close to them. The Chairman would like to thank all those who participated in the work especially non board members Graham, Peter and Rob Norris’s son. Neil Sampson took a break from the work to catch half a dozen carp during the night. Wayne Macrow fished during the day taking four carp to 11lbs. Wayne likes to float-fish with his third rod and reported catching good-sized skimmers throughout the day too.
Don’t forget that the first of the club’s Open Days is to be held on Saturday, the 20th August, at McGregor Lake when tackle and free refreshments will be provided to all participants. Start time will be around 10am with, at least, three qualified coaches on hand to help them get the most out of the day. Walker’s Pitch has generously offered to sponsor the event too so that no one should leave empty handed.
