Open Day a success despite arctic conditions!

It was lucky that there were plenty of hot drinks and snacks on hand to sustain all the brave souls who turned up for the Open Day at McGregor Lake as temperatures started to tumble. There was a good turnout for this second Open Day and, despite the conditions, a 9lb carp was landed together with some small roach.

Although carp continued to show on the surface at Gingerbread Lake, there have been no reports of any captures. John Hayden reported catching a 7lb tench whilst fishing in the factory bay and Alan Bates caught three tench and a bream during an overnight session. Alan said that all of his fish were around the 6lb mark.

Alan Davies fished on the River Ivel from where he caught a nice 6lb 1oz chub. Alan said that his successful bait was boilie paste. Thomas Finney went for a bit of trotting on the river and was pleased to find the weed was beginning to die down. However, he found bites hard to come by at first but later hooked a big chub that managed to snag itself and regain its freedom. He fished on for another half hour or so taking another chub of around 4lbs and a small perch. A change of swims brought Thomas a change of fortune when he hooked and landed a pristine 2lb 13oz perch and then caught a big ruff.
