Big pike starting to show

A number of big pike have been caught recently at Swan Lake with the best topping 21lbs. Other big pike caught included fish of 19lbs, 17lb 3oz and 13lbs.

Anthony Pogmore was keen to have another day’s fishing at McGregor Lake and, despite an overnight frost, was still optimistic of getting the odd run. Signs were good when he had an early drop back bite which some time later developed into a good run. The fish was netted and turned out to be a pristine mirror carp around 10lbs. He returned to the lake later in the week with Robert Livock but it was Robert who saw most of the action. Within the first hour, he had a good run netting an 11lb 7oz mirror carp and soon after was playing another good fish when the hook came out. Thereafter, the swim died as gale force winds made casting and bait presentation difficult.
