Major restocking of McGregor Lake

During the week, over 2000 young mirror and common carp supplied by Fishers Pond Fishery were stocked into McGregor Lake to further boost sport at this prolific fishery. Carp have been feeding with Alan Wilkie and Mick Broom banking double-figured fish to 14lbs. The pattern emerging was that the fish were feeding late in the afternoon and into the night.

Neil Sampson has been catching some good chub on the River Ivel at Sandy with a four fish haul to 4lbs 8oz followed by another two fish, the best weighing 5lb 13oz. Later in the week, Neil fished another of the club’s stretches about half a mile upstream with his friend, Ray Albon. On this occasion, it was Ray who caught first when he landed a 5lb 13oz chub which had taken his ledgered cheese paste. Careful study of the fish showed it be the same fish Neil had caught a couple of days earlier. No doubt it was really cheesed off! Later in the day, Neil caught another two chub by adopting a roving approach.

Members are reminded that the movement of fish between waters is strictly forbidden and anyone found doing this risks expulsion and prosecution as the club has no current licence to do so.

During the next week or so, existing night permit holders will be contacted to invite them to renew their permits. Please contact the membership secretary if you do not receive your invitation letter as any vacancies will be filled promptly from the waiting list after the end of April.

The IPA Pairs match will be fished on 10th February and the club’s stretch of the overflow channel known as the dead river will be used.
