Old Year ends with a bang and New Year starts off with fireworks

Peter Housden found Gingerbread Lake flooded so went to Swan Lake after the Xmas festivities to fish overnight. He caught only a single fish but it turned out to be one of the biggest carp in the lake, a large-scaled mirror weighing 32lb 2oz which was a new p.b. for the BHAA bailiff. Later in the week he returned to Gingerbread Lake where the water was highly coloured due to the recent flooding but he still managed to catch a 12lb mirror carp fishing in the deep water. Peter was using Innovate Baits’ steamed baits to catch his fish. Tom Stimson was another angler to find the carp feeding at Swan Lake when he opened his New Year account with fish of 26lbs and 17lbs.

BHAA member Thomas Finney tried out a new lure on an undisclosed club water. He cast his lure alongside an overhanging bush and had a violent take. The fish turned out to be a magnificent pike weighing 27lb 9oz, a new p.b. for the Sandy angler.

Carp, bream and roach have been feeding well at McGregor Lake following the rise in temperature. Mick Usher fished a two night session on the lake and enjoyed some hectic action taking several carp to low doubles.

All BHAA lakes are now fishable again after the recent floods but members are asked to exercise extreme caution when driving to swims as much of the surrounding land is still waterlogged and very soft.
