What a difference a week makes!

The improving weather has really started to get fish feeding with specimens of several different species caught. Richard Bartlett caught three carp from McGregor Lake with the biggest weighing 13lb 6oz. Richard was using fishmeal boilies as bait. Peter Biernis caught a small carp around 6lbs on hair rigged sweetcorn whilst Mick Duffy tempted two bream around 4lbs each using red maggot and a pinkie. Craig Garwood caught a nice double-figured mirror too.

Robert Livock returned to the Sandy Lakes complex for another day’s pike fishing after catching a 20 pounder the previous week. Robert went on to catch another 20, this time a 20lb 4oz specimen plus 3 singles weighing 6lb 12oz, 7lb 8oz and 8lb 12oz. Another member was spinning when his lure was taken by a 15lb mirror carp fairly hooked in the mouth. Martin Barnatt caught a 10lb 3oz bream and a smaller one around 8lbs. Karl Franklin enjoyed similar success catching a 9lb 15oz bream and a smaller one. Alan Wilkie fished overnight catching another double-figured bream and a 20lb plus carp. Good-sized roach have been feeding avidly at Swan Lake with one member catching over 50 fish during the day up to 12-14oz.

Nick Page has been day fishing at Gingerbread Lake where he has been enjoying great success with the lake’s carp catching 11 big carp so far from a variety of swims. On one of his latest visits, he caught a fish known as the long common weighing 33lbs plus a mirror of 25lbs. Richard Holden landed another of the lake’s specimen carp, a cracking 36lb mirror. Colin Kingham got off the mark with a 25lb mirror carp and a bream around the 9-10lb mark. John Murphy was pleased to catch a 15lb common carp earlier in the week when the lake temperature was still low. Bailiff Steve Bull was patrolling around the lake when he came across Dave Holland with his rod arced over playing a good fish. It turned out to be a7lb15oz tench which he caught on two float-fished maggots. Nick Page also reported catching a big tench but he unhooked the fish in his landing net and returned the fish unweighed. Several other anglers each caught carp mainly from the east end of the lake.
