Silver fish put in a welcome appearance

Membership Secretary Anthony Pogmore went to McGregor Lake but found the lake shrouded in dense fog. He need not have worried though for within a few minutes a screaming run produced a 13lb 4oz mirror carp for him using a snowman rig made up of a plum boilie and a robin red pop-up. Ray Wyka appeared who was fishing a nearby swim carrying a 13lb common he had just caught and then he followed that up with a 10lb mirror carp. Honours were even soon after though when Anthony caught a beautifully-conditioned 13lb 8oz common carp and then missed another screaming run. However, as soon as the sun broke through sport was over for the day.

Cluster puts in an appearance

Winston Pogmore float-fished with cockles but had only managed to catch a small bream but, as he decided to pack up, his float dipped under and he ended up catching a nice 5lb 14oz tench. Another member pole-fished with sweet corn as bait catching plenty of roach and rudd throughout the day. Richard Holden has joined our bailiffing team and will be carrying out spot checks around the lake from time to time.

Paul lands another p.b. carp

Club secretary Alan Davies has just returned from the holiday of a lifetime fishing for sturgeon the mighty Fraser River in Canada with his friend Ian. The two anglers landed 41 fish during their six-day trip ranging from 2lbs to 400lbs with no fewer than 15 fish topping 100lbs. They went on a trip organised by Great Fishing Adventures and their two river guides, Curtis and Ben, provided all the equipment including 7ft one-piece fibreglass rods with multiplier reels loaded with 150lb braided line. Terminal tackle consisted of a 2lb running lead to a 200lb braided hook link with a size 10/0 hook.

Nicky lands a p.b. mirror

A new member, Nicky Munro fished at Gingerbread Lake where he made a cracking start. He opened his account by catching a 10lb carp but later in the day went on to land a 21lb 6oz mirror, a new personal best on his first visit.
