A last minute decision to go pike fishing resulted in Barry Fox ending the year with one of the biggest fish caught from BHAA’s Sandy Lakes complex. Barry baited his two lines with a half mackerel and a small joey mackerel casting them both out into the lake around 10am. About an hour later, the line baited with the the joey mackerel was picked up and soon developed into a powerful run. Barry struck and immediately realised he had connected with one of the lake’s big pike.
Whilst the odd carp is still getting caught, it is pike that have been feeding well at BHAA’s Sandy Lakes complex. Three pike over 20lbs have been reported with the best weighing 28lbs and the other two topping 25lbs. Details of their captors are not yet to hand though.
BHAA members will be pleased to learn that the stockings of fish reported last week have already taken place with crucian carp and tench going into Grace Lake and young barbel being stocked into the River Ivel at Tempsford by the Environment Agency
