Although few reports of fish captures have been made by anglers fishing at Gingerbread Lake, several of the lake’s big carp have graced the bank in the last couple of weekends. They include a common of well over 30lbs and mirrors to nearly 30lbs. It seems as though the lake’s tench have still to wake up although the odd fish has been caught accidentally by carp anglers.
The normally prolific McGregor Lake was fishing hard for carp at the moment despite the recent restocking that has taken place. Bream and other silver fish continued to be caught though.
Carp were starting to move at Gingerbread Lake where several fish to 35lbs were caught but locating them was proving a problem for many anglers. However, as the lake’s water temperature rises, the fish should become increasingly active.
Bailff Dave Hallybone had caught a steady stream of the big carp that inhabit Swan Lake in previous seasons but was the first to admit that he had been struggling to find the fish over the winter months. His patience and determination finally paid off when he caught a truly magnificent 22lb 10oz ‘AJS’ fully-scaled mirror whilst fishing overnight at the lake. His previous fish was another ‘20’, a 22lb 8oz ‘Fishers Pond’ mirror that had piled on the pounds since it was stocked into the lake.
Gingerbread Lake recorded its biggest pike of the winter when a member banked a 20lb specimen which makes it the third BHAA venue to produce 20lb plus pike this season. Barry Fox fished for a few hours during the week as was soon into a decent pike, a 9lb specimen.
