Lakes come alive after spawning is over

The club will be holding an Open Day at McGregor Lake on Saturday, the 24th of May, designed for novice anglers which will be open to non-members. Trained coaches will be on hand to provide tuition and assistance throughout the day. Refreshments and drinks will be provided too at the club’s expense. Fishing will start from around 8.30am but participants can come and go when they like.

Two 40s landed

Ross Hallybone recently had an 8 carp haul fishing at McGregor Lake that included mirrors to 18lbs. Robert Livock found the lake busy with fellow anglers but found a swim vacant at the shallow end of the lake. He went on to catch two 2-3lb bream and an 11lb mirror.

Walker’s Pitch is closing

The unsettled weather over the past week has resulted in an increase in fish caught from all of BHAA’s still waters. At Gingerbread Lake, James Muncaster caught his first carp of the year which turned out to be the mirror known as ‘The Lookalike’ tipping his scales at over 41lbs. Kevin Barrable reported catching his biggest carp from the lake, a pristine 32lb mirror and followed this catch up with a three fish haul of carp to low doubles. Mike Ralston braved heavy rain to catch a 7lb 12oz tench whilst fishing in the factory bay.

Mike Broom fished overnight at Swan Lake where he banked a big bream during the night but, at day break, he caught a 25lb 10oz mirror. Later in the week, Mike returned for another session and went on to catch a 17lb carp. Bob Kitchener has been targeting the lake’s bream and has been enjoying regular success throughout the night. Bob has caught several double figured specimens and some smaller ones thought to be males by their breeding tubercles.
