Great sport to be had on the rivers

Daryl Close has been making some spectacular catches whilst fishing on the River Ivel. He banked a 6lb 8oz chub fishing in the evening and on a subsequent visit caught a 15lb 2oz barbel followed by another big chub weighing 5lb 14oz.

Brad Hollidge has been regularly fishing overnight at Swan Lake where he has been averaging 2-3 carp each visit with his best so far weighing 22lbs. Carp to over 30lbs have been spotted cruising on the surface during the daytime but were proving difficult to catch mainly because of avaricious gulls feeding on the floaters before the carp can get to them.

McGregor Lake continues to provide a steady stream of carp but few of the better carp seem to be feeding once the sun is shining on the water. Anthony Pogmore caught a nice mirror carp weighing around 11-12lbs during the day but it was his only action of the day. Ray Wyka has been catching the odd carp too but also bream when he uses method feeder tactics. Paul Prior reported that his son and he have been catching some nice double-figured carp fishing overnight at the lake too. Anglers float fishing were picking up roach, rudd and skimmers throughout the day but even their sport has been affected by the bright conditions.

Dave Holland caught two nice tench float fishing at Gingerbread Lake, the biggest weighed 6lb 8oz and both were males. Winston Pogmore banked two more eels when float fishing with cockles demonstrating that the lake still holds a good head of this species. A few carp have been caught over the past week but the bright conditions have kept carp away from bottom feeding for the most part.
