July goes out with a bang!

Martin Crouch decided to put some time in fishing before his imminent move to Cornwall. He fished at Swan Lake, Sandy targeting the good-sized roach that are currently flourishing in the lake. During a short evening session, he went to catch around 20lbs of roach up to the pound mark and then returned the next morning to add another 10lbs to his tally. Paul Longhurst reported a surprise catch from the lake in the form of a 2lb 7oz tench, the second from the lake this season raising a suspicion that these fish have been informally introduced by someone without the knowledge or approval of the club’s board.

Paul Allum and his son are continuing to enjoy their fishing trips to the River Ouse at Tempsford. This week he reported catching two good-sized eels, the best weighing 3lb 1oz whilst his son, Paul Allum jnr. banked a number of perch to nearly two pounds.

The fishing at McGregor Lake was good while there was some cloud cover as sport tended to die immediately the sun broke through. On one such overcast morning, anglers were catching carp and bream from all parts of the lake. Anthony Pogmore had a tremendous scrap with a 13lb mirror after a screaming run.

Earlier in the season, Dave Holland bemoaned the fact that he could not get a bite from tench in the daytime at Gingerbread Lake but in recent weeks he has been notching up a couple of fish each morning as well as the odd small carp. In the past week, he has banked tench weighing 5lb 13oz and 6lb 3oz on float-fished pellets. Bailiff Richard Holden caught two 30lb plus carp off the surface and also landed another big carp which he caught ledgering. Another bailiff, Colin ‘the worm’ Burge, landed a carp around the 30lb mark together with a couple of sizeable tench using his favourite bait – worms! Colin Kingham caught a 12lb carp after another angler had earlier hooked three carp in the same swim.

Please note that the Bus Stop Shop has now sold out of club books but books are still available at other sales outlets.
