Carp keep close to the weed beds at Gingerbread Lake

There has been a late explosion of new weed growth in Gingerbread Lake where many of the lake’s carp have sought shelter. Mark Horspool has often chosen to fish close to the dense weed beds and, on a recent trip, he managed to bank a 21lb mirror and a 22lb common and was unlucky to lose another two fish in the weed beds. Over the summer months, Mark has caught a number of 20lb plus carp including a superb common carp weighing 33lbs.

Mark Adams has been fishing at Swan Lake and reported catching a 24lb mirror carp plus two of the lake’s big bream during a recent overnight session. Throughout the daylight hours, the lake’s carp can be spotted cruising near the surface and, occasionally, leaping clear of the water but the clarity of the water results in the fish being more confident to feed in low light conditions. Roach continue to be active during the daytime and can be caught close to the margins around most of the lake.

The bright conditions have made sport patchy at McGregor Lake but the odd carp continues to be caught during the day. Winston Pogmore caught an 11lb 10oz mirror and a small bream and another angler landed a 13 pounder.

Dave Allum fished on the River Ouse at Tempsford and caught a nice 2lb 2oz perch on ledgered worms. Later he banked a good-sized eel around 1lb 8oz. His grandson Paul Allum was retrieving his worms when they were grabbed by a small pike which was in superb condition and has many more growing years left.
