Its not always an ill wind!

Nick ‘the Greek’ Page ventured out on the day that the remnants of hurricane Gonzalo were bringing near gale force winds to the area. He went with a friend to Swan Lake and opted to fish into the teeth of the wind while his mate opted to fish the lee side of the lake. His […]

New lake record for Swan

Night fishing at Swan Lake has been fruitful for many anglers in recent weeks especially for Roy Keeble who has caught a number of 20lb plus carp. This week saw him notch up his first 30lb carp from the lake, a 33lb 11oz mirror which sets a new lake record. The big fish fell to a Letchworth Bait Services’ boilie. Another angler spotted some carp topping close to a reed bed and so he decided to trickle in a handful of boilies. He returned to the swim a while later and cast out to where he had seen the fish topping. His reward was a 29lb 10 oz mirror known as ‘The Parrot’. Joe Doherty caught one of the lake’s big commons, a 28lb specimen and later added a 14lb carp too. Evan John was another angler to get amongst the lake’s big carp netting a 27lb mirror. Martin Barnatt decided to fish for some of the good-sized roach that have appeared in the lake over recent years. He pole-fished maggots to take around 20 fish including roach, rudd, skimmers and hybrids but could not find the better fish. A float-fished dead bait also produced a good-sized pike for the angler.

Pike bites off more than it can chew!

It is with sadness that we have learned of the death of club member Bob (the builder) Fairey who has lost a long battle with cancer. Bob often night fished at Gingerbread Lake until his illness prevented him from so doing. In recent times, he helped to repair the track at the Sandy Lakes complex single-handed using his own tipper lorry. Bob and his dog Buster will be greatly missed by all who new him.

Summertime ends on a high

Winston Pogmore fished at McGregor Lake on a bright and fairly windless day when nothing seemed to be feeding. He was about to call it a day in the late afternoon when he had a solitary run out of the blue which turned out to be from a pristine 14lb 3oz common carp.
