First frosts do little to affect sport

After two hard frosts in the week, one would think that catches might drop off but this has not been the case. At Gingerbread Lake, carp could be seen topping throughout the day indicating that they were still active. Bream were homing in on particles fished at about 40 yards range with fish being caught during daylight hours as well as at night.

Mick Usher fished overnight at McGregor Lake but was tired outcome the following morning as he reported constant action throughout the day and night. He landed no fewer than 15 carp during the session, mainly doubles with 3 of the carp topping 15lbs. Richard Bartlett caught a pristine conditioned 12lb 12oz common carp fishing with three maggots on a size 16 hook tied to only 6lb b.s. line.

Antony Collins reported catching an 8lb 2oz common carp from the River Ivel, a relative rarity in recent years. Previously, he had caught a 5lb fully-scaled mirror carp fishing at McGregor Lake and another larger mirror carp.

Members are reminded that the club will be holding a work party at Gingerbread Lake over the weekend of 15-16th November when the lake will be closed to angling from 5pm on Friday on the 14th until 5pm on Sunday, the 16th.
