John Cartwright fished the BHAA’s stretch of the River Ouse upstream of Harrold. He float-fished using curry flavoured maggots as bait which the fish found irresistible. He caught superbly-conditioned roach averaging around 3/4lb and perch to nearly 1lb at the rate of a fish per cast throughout the day until nightfall.
BHAA was pleased to learn that two of its waters, Swan Lake and Gingerbread Lake, have been jointly awarded the best fishery status for the Midlands area in 2014 by ‘Anglers’ Mail’. This award recognises the efforts that the club has gone to in developing these two fisheries over the years with both waters approaching their respective peaks. The club is far from complacent though and plans to continue to invest in new fish stocks and to improve the facilities at both venues subject to available finances.
Kevin Webb fished lower down on the river near to the Sandy Lakes complex. He ledgered bread flake throughout the day to bank three good chub, the best weighing 5lb 4oz too. Club chairman Neil Sampson fished another stretch near to Sandy where he caught a cracking chub weighing 6lb 4oz.
