Cheese paste lures big chub

Kike Baldwin has kept fishing away at McGregor Lake despite the cold conditions and his approach has been working well for him. Mike has targeted the lake’s bream using swim fed maggots as bait and recasting precisely to the same area. He has succeeded in getting some of the bigger bream in the lake to feed with specimens up to 5lbs caught.

Martin Barnatt decided to fish for chub in the River Ivel near Sandy where he caught three chub to 3lbs trotting bread flake sown the stream. However, a late change of tactics to cheese paste enabled him to finish the day on a high when he banked a 5lb 5oz chub. Robert Livock returned to the river in the early part of the week to catch two more chub weighing 3lb 12oz and 4lbs both on ledgered bread flake. Later in the week, he fished with membership secretary Anthony Pogmore but they could only manage a couple of smallish chub under 3lbs each. News of a 7lb chub being caught from the Ivel near Sandy has come to light but no further details are to hand at this point in time.

Club chairman Neil Sampson fished the River Ouse at Tempsford where he caught a single chub weighing 4lb 15oz on ledgered cheese paste.
