Maggots continue to produce results

Over the winter months, Mike Broom left his carp rods at home to concentrate on fishing the River Ivel. He has fished on several stretches of the river controlled by BHAA targeting chub and perch. Mike has caught plenty of chub to 5lb 7oz long trotting with maggots and seven perch, four of which topped 2lbs with the best weighing 2lb 15oz. The perch all fell to red maggots drop shotting.

Mick Baldwin has continued to enjoy regular catches of bream fishing at McGregor Lake but has scaled his tackle down to size 20 hooks baited with maggots beneath a swim feeder. Another member has been finding the roach pole fishing at Swan Lake where he has caught up to 50 roach in a session. On some days though, roach have been difficult to locate so success is by no means guaranteed on every visit.

There will be netting operations undertaken at Swan Lake on the 26th of February with the aim of removing some of the smaller roach. These will be transferred to stock other lakes on the complex. This work will be carried out in conjunction with fisheries officers from the Environment Agency.
