Carp still feeding well despite nights

Hard overnight frosts through much of the week could have resulted in a paucity of catches but this has not turned out to be the case. Bailiff Derek Orchard reported catching a 24lb mirror carp fishing in the channel area of the lake whilst John Murphy opened his account for the year with a 24lb 4oz caught from the dugout swim. Yannis Spalis fished the reconstructed ’20-20’ swim where he caught two carp, a 14lb mirror and a 21lb common carp. Denham Baits owner Paul Rudd banked another two carp fishing the pylon swim, a 21lb common followed by a 32lb mirror. Paul spotted a carp rise close in to his left and immediately cast a bait towards the rise which resulted in the bigger of the two fish. Another of the club’s bailiffs, Richard Holden caught a 28lb mirror carp fishing along the road bank as well as an unintended 9lb pike that took a liking to his boilies.

Nick,’the Greek’ Page decided to try another of BHAA’s specimen waters, Swan Lake, which resulted in a three carp haul with the best fish landed being a 28lb mirror. He returned to the lake the following day to catch a 24lb specimen.

Richard Bartlett visited McGregor Lake for a quick four hour session catching a well-conditioned 14lb mirror. He had had a four carp haul on a previous visit fishing two different swims with his best fish weighing 12lb 12oz.

Members are asked to note that the Sandy Lakes complex will be closed on the 11th and 12th of April to allow improvements to be made to the entrance road and to other areas where vehicular has become difficult. Also, McGregor Lake has been reserved for an over 60s match on Wednesday, the 17th of April, the first in a series of monthly matches to be held at the lake. Swan and Grace Lakes will remain open as usual.
