Carp catches steal the limelight

In recent weeks, Denham Baits owner, Paul Rudd, has been proving jut how good his baits are by catching many of Gingerbread Lakes big carp including the sought after mirror carp known as Moonscale weighing an impressive 41l;b 4oz plus an immaculate 31lb 6oz common carp and another mirror weighing 29lb 14oz. Nick ‘the Greek’ Page just cannot stop catching carp landing another 4 fish from the ‘Fridge’ swim during an overnight session and then catching a 20lb common fishing in the deep bay. Norman Brinn opted for a swim on the windward side of the lake where he caught water a hard-fighting 27lb mirror carp. John Murphy had to be content catching one of the lake’s sizeable bream weighing between 7-8lbs.

Anglers returning to another of BHAA’s big fish venues, Swan Lake, have also been getting amongst the carp. The largest reported capture was of a 32lb mirror carp caught by Barry Gyles. Callum Sharp recently landed a pristine 26lb common carp from the same venue.

Indicators have been flying at McGregor Lake too where Simon Ward and his fishing companion have been regularly catching plenty of carp in short evening sessions. Robert Livock fished through the day to catch carp weighing 6lb 7oz, 13lbs and 11lbs. Earlier in the week, he caught one of his best carp from the lake, a 14lb 10oz mirror.

Members are reminded that the Sandy Lakes complex will be closed on the 11th and 12th of April to enable essential improvements to the road and tracks to be carried out when heavy equipment will be used. Also, McGregor Lake will be hosting an Over 60s match on the 22nd of April when the lake will be reserved but both Swan and Grace Lakes will be available to members.

Anyone seeking to renew their night fishing permits are reminded that the deadline for renewal will be the end of this month.

Anglers have been observed breaking club rules at the Sandy Lakes complex by using three rods when the limit is two. Persons caught breaking club rules will be dealt with severely.
