If you can find them, you can catch them!

Location seems to be the key for success at BHAA’s Gingerbread Lake with many of the lake’s fish bunched up as a prelude to spawning. Mike Broom fished overnight in an increasingly popular corner swim where he caught two big carp, a 34lb mirror and a 20lb 8oz fully-scaled mirror. In the morning, he went on to catch 6 big tench all in the 8-9lb range including a very long male. Andrew White also doubled up on carp catching mirrors weighing 39lb 6oz and 26lb 2oz. Darren Coles confirmed that he was one of the carp anglers to catch a 12lb tench from the venue in previous weeks. Dave Holland had been frustrated not being able to fish his favourite swim in recent visits but still managed to catch a 5lb 12oz tench float-fishing from the north bank of the factory bay. John Murphy found it difficult to get away from bream that were avidly mopping up all free offerings in his swim but he still managed to catch a 13lb common during the day. Lancastrian Adrian Waites was pleased to catch his first carp from the lake, a 26lb mirror, to add to his previously reported 9lb tench.

Swan Lake at Sandy has been fishing it’s head off for a number of weeks with multiple catches being regularly reported. Bailiff Dave Hallybone hit the jackpot this week by catching no fewer than 8 big carp including two over 29lbs and a 25lb 4oz fully-scaled mirror too. Evan John banked two 19s during an overnight stay. Barry Giles caught the heaviest reported carp, a beautifully conditioned mirror weighing 35lb 2oz.

Anglers fishing at McGregor Lake have been catching numbers of double-figured carp fishing in short evening spells throughout the week. Robert Livock has found sport slow during the day only managing a 9lb common carp in a couple of visits despite missing a couple of screaming runs. Malcolm Berry, however, caught 8 carp over two evenings to 16lbs and then he moved over to swan Lake where he caught a 19lb 10oz carp in just three hours. All his fish were caught using home made boilies.
