Specimen crucian caught from Grace Lake

Martin Barnatt decided to try for crucian carp, a species stocked into Grace Lake by the club in recent years. He opted for an early morning session and was rewarded by catching a 2lb 14oz specimen. A few other movements were registered on his float but these were made by small roach, a nice tench which unfortunately was lost and a terrapin, confirming the presence of this reptile in the lake.

Bailiff Derek Orchard fished a daytime session in a corner swim at Gingerbread Lake where he caught two smallish carp but also landed a 24lb common. Another angler to opt for a quiet corner was Leicester based Kevin Bacon who arrived at the lake for a 72 hour session. His journey proved worthwhile as he went on to catch a 28lb 4oz mirror carp during his visit. Richard Holden observed plenty of carp moving in and out of the weed beds as they prepared themselves for yet another hectic spawning session. He went on to catch a 33lb common carp later followed by a 35lb 14oz common, thought to be the heaviest common ever landed at the lake. Richard said that the fish fell to a single boilie. Kevin Barrable fished a swim in the channel area of the lake where he caught a 9lb 4oz tench, a new personal best for him. As he was weighing the fish, he observed a fish roll above one of his other baits cast out into his swim and thought it might be another good tench. However, a short time later he had a run and connected with a fish but it was no tench. Instead, it was the mirror carp known as ‘the lookalike’ weighing an impressive 39lb 4oz, another p.b. for him. He finished his session with a 26lb 8oz common carp to make it a memorable visit.

In recent weeks, Craig Brooks has enjoyed some quality fishing on BHAA waters catching two big tench each over 7lbs from Gingerbread Lake and then changing venue to Sandy’s Swan Lake where he caught a 30lb 2oz mirror carp.
