Joe Hill fished overnight at Swan Lake with a guest, Paul Fellowes, and both anglers were able to record good catches. Joe Hill landed a 17lb common but Paul Fellowes broke the 20lb barrier with a 23lb mirror carp.
Alan Wilkie caught a pristine 13lb common whilst day fishing at Swan Lake. He said that he caught the fish only inches away from the margins rather than trying to tempt one from frequently fished hotspots located at range.
The number 15 featured in reports of captures from McGregor Lake this week. Membership Secretary Anthony Pogmore fished at the lake following his capture of a nice tench from Gingerbread Lake and, within a couple of hours of fishing, he landed a hard-fighting 15lb mirror. His fish fell to an Amber Cream boilie fished in conjunction with a PVA bag of freebies .Another angler fishing the lake on the same day did even better by catching, at least, 3 carp to over 15lbs. Finally, young Max Austin opened his account when he caught a 15lb 1oz mirror carp using a Robin Red boilie as bait.
Mick Day returned for another day at McGregor Lake where he again opted to fish a swim often passed over by fellow anglers. Casting along the margins either side of his swim brought him more success in the form of two nice mirror carp weighing 16lb 4oz and 12lb 8oz plus a good-sized bream. Barry Arnold almost mimicked his catch when he caught another 16lb 4oz mirror and an 11 pounder too. Roy Keeble has had a break from carp fishing in the daytime to target other species in the lake. Waggler fishing with sweetcorn as bait produced a steady stream of beautifully conditioned roach and bream for him throughout the day plus a bonus 8lb 10oz mirror carp for good measure.
Mick Day returned to McGregor Lake where on his previous visit he had caught carp weighing 15lb and 12lb 10oz but he thought his luck was out when he hooked and lost two more double-figured mirrors. However, around 3pm he experienced a third run that turned out to be from a 17lb mirror carp. All of his fish were caught fishing close to the margins in a swim neglected by most anglers. Anthony Pogmore banked two mirrors on the same day but both turned out to be hard fighting single-figured fish.
