Carp starting to feed actively again

With the spawn and fry food bonanza diminishing and cooler conditions, all BHAA-controlled lakes have seen an upturn in sport.

Alan Grimsey caught a 30lb+ mirror carp fishing overnight at Swan Lake heralding a new 30 as the fish was recognised as being one that had been previously caught weighing only 24lbs.

Mick Day returned to McGregor Lake where on his previous visit he had caught carp weighing 15lb and 12lb 10oz but he thought his luck was out when he hooked and lost two more double-figured mirrors. However, around 3pm he experienced a third run that turned out to be from a 17lb mirror carp. All of his fish were caught fishing close to the margins in a swim neglected by most anglers. Anthony Pogmore banked two mirrors on the same day but both turned out to be hard fighting single-figured fish.

Club chairman Neil Sampson fished overnight at Gingerbread Lake catching an 8lb tench. His fishing companion, fisheries officer George Horne, was also successful landing a big 29lb 7oz mirror carp. Kevin Webb caught a 28lb mirror carp during a daytime session at the lake and Lee Edmans opened his account by catching a cracking looking 27lb 4oz mirror. Another angler was reported to have caught a 36lb mirror but no details are to hand.

A member left behind his landing net after a day’s fishing at Gingerbread Lake. If you have found it, please get in touch with the membership secretary it can be reunited with its owner.
