Falling leaves herald that winter is on its way

The largest fish was a 32lb 8oz mirror but Kevin Barrable had a 30lb mirror too shortly into a 3-day session. It was to prove his only action during his stay. Bailiff Derek Orchard has caught consistently throughout the week fishing only daytime sessions landing mirrors weighing 21lbs and 23lbs together with a 24lb common carp.

George Horne added to his big eel catch (reported last week) by catching a 13lb mirror carp and a 17lb common carp. Moonscale was reported to have put in yet another appearance when it was caught by a member fishing on the road side. The big mirror weighed around 42lbs and was backed up by another fish weighing 26lbs. Kevin Barrable Caught an 18lb mirror during the week but had earlier caught the fish known as the Long Common weighing 31lbs.

New record set for Gingerbread Lake

Gary Thompson fished a midweek session at Swan Lake where carp have been hard to catch in recent months. A single fish was the result but it turned out to be a scale-perfect 29lb 2oz common carp. Later in the week, Alan Grimsey caught two good-sized carp from the same venue but the weights are not to hand.

Later season tench caught

Several members have confirmed that most of the action from carp at McGregor Lake was being experienced in the evenings and after dark. Alan Wilkie fished the lake on a couple of occasions staying on until nightfall and it has enabled him to catch two good-sized carp from the lake, a 15lb 11oz mirror and another weighing 18lb 13oz. He added that his bigger fish fell to a snowman rig using 10lb b.s. line and ‘Avon’ rods giving him a 20 minute scrap.
