Falling leaves herald that winter is on its way

Despite the lack of any frosts, the surface at Gingerbread Lake has been stippled with fallen leaves, at times, making it difficult to cast out without hooking one. The lake water is still quite warm though and several big carp have been caught recently. The largest fish was a 32lb 8oz mirror but Kevin Barrable had a 30lb mirror too shortly into a 3-day session. It was to prove his only action during his stay. Bailiff Derek Orchard has caught consistently throughout the week fishing only daytime sessions landing mirrors weighing 21lbs and 23lbs together with a 24lb common carp. Darren Gray caught a 23lb mirror too. Anthony Pogmore was in the throes of packing up after a fishless day when one of his buzzers signalled a fast run. The fish was lightly weeded but soon persuaded to come to the net. It turned out to be a long tench estimated to weigh 6-7lbs and fell to a ‘snowman’ rig.

Members are reminded that the final Over 60s match of the year will be held at McGregor Lake on Wednesday, 28th of October, when fishing will be restricted to match men during the day. The other lakes on the Sandy complex will remain open for members whilst the match is in progress. Consignments of carp for both Gingerbread and Swan Lakes will be arriving at the end of the coming week as part of the club’s ongoing stocking programme.
