New record set for Gingerbread Lake

Whilst big carp catches tend to grab the headlines, fisheries officer George Horne has smashed the record for the biggest eel caught from Gingerbread Lake. The fish, a monster 6lb 11oz specimen is nearly a pound heavier than previously reported catches. The mirror carp named ‘Moonscale’ has put in a second appearance in only 10 days when a member caught it weighing 41lb 3oz together with a smaller carp weighing 25lbs. Mark Collins banked, at least, three carp on his last session with fish weighing up to 33lbs. Kevin Barrable repeated his previous week’s success by landing two more carp weighing 26lbs and 25lbs. Yanis Spallis fished the same swim and also caught a good-sized carp, a 23olb mirror carp. Chairman Neil Sampson fished overnight catching another nice mirror carp weighing 23lbs too. Steve Curtin got in on the action too with an 18lb mirror carp.

Gary Thompson fished a midweek session at Swan Lake where carp have been hard to catch in recent months. A single fish was the result but it turned out to be a scale-perfect 29lb 2oz common carp. Later in the week, Alan Grimsey caught two good-sized carp from the same venue but the weights are not to hand.

Anglers fishing at McGregor Lake have experienced plenty of action from carp in the late afternoons and evenings. Peter Biernis caught three carp weighing 10lbs, 7lbs and 15lbs using a popped-up boilie as bait. Mr Goodge had a hit of around 10 carp in a two night session with both commons and mirrors weighing up to over 18lbs. He found the fish still to be feeding throughout the day by careful placement of his baits to the far margins accompanied by flavour-laced spod mix.

Fraser Hayden finally got a break from work commitments and household chores to resume fishing the club’s stretches of rivers. He decided to fish on the River Ivel where he ended up catching a super 3lb 6oz perch.
