Big chub from the River Ouse

BHAA’s chairman Neil Sampson has continued fishing throughout the cold weather in pursuit big chub that are present on several of the club’s stretches of the Ivel and Great Ouse. He decided to try for them on a little fished stretch of the Ouse and succeeded in banking two cracking specimens weighing 6lb 1oz and 6lb 10oz, the latter being a new personal best.

Carp have continued to feed throughout the winter at Gingerbread Lake with several large fish being landed, the heaviest fish being the mirror carp named ‘Moonscale’ weighing 44lbs. Pike to 20lbs have been caught too during recent weeks.

The fish at McGregor Lake have started to feed with a number of anglers reporting catching carp with the largest fish weighing over 20lbs. A number of the fish taken were at low light levels but some have been caught during the day as well.

The local PAC will be holding its latest meeting at the Wingfield Club, Ampthill at 7pm on the 9th of March when the guest speaker will be Dave Mutton, a cat fishing specialist with a number of huge ‘cats’ to his name. For more details, contact Valentine Tomlin at
