Club bailiff Derek Orchard managed to get a single take fishing close to the near margins to his swim fishing at Gingerbread Lake. It turned out to be from a magnificent looking 33lb 8oz long common. Board member Kevin Webb was on hand to witness the weigh-in and photograph the fish. Dave Holland tried to catch tench using float-fished sweetcorn as bait but had to settle for catching roach in the 4-8oz bracket which fed avidly throughout the morning.
Jamie Hotchin-Stylianou fished overnight at McGregor Lake and, despite a hard frost, managed to catch four good-sized carp. Robert Livock finally got off the mark after a couple of blank visits when he caught a 14lb 2oz mirror during a short morning session. Other anglers were getting sport from bream and roach using feeder tactics.
Mark Sinclair visited Grace Lake where he went on to catch a 5lb 4oz tench using a maggot feeder. This intimate lake has been well stocked with both crucian carp and tench and offers a welcome change from the other more heavily fished venues.
More recently, a member reported catching no fewer than five carp in a session all falling to Element L boilies. Nick ‘the Greek’ Page turned up for a daytime session and margin fished catching three cracking carp, a 33lb mirror and two other 20lb+ carp. John Murphy got off the mark this year by catching 2 big bream both well over 9lbs.
