The magic continues

After catching three carp to 33lb 10oz, Nick Page returned to the same swim the following day and doubled his tally by catching 6 carp during the day including the Brown Mirror weighing 40lb 2oz, another 33lb mirror and four smaller carp. All his fish were caught fishing close to his near bank and came at regular intervals throughout his stay. Mike Broom returned after a winter break and was soon off the mark catching another 40lb mirror and a smaller one weighing 31lbs. Julian Barnes reported banking two carp, the best weighing 26lb 10oz. John Murphy caught his third large bream from the venue using Icelandic Red boilies fished over a bed of corn and hemp and was unlucky to lose an even bigger specimen that came off near the net. A carp angler caught one of the first tench to be reported this year, a 6lb 8oz specimen together with a 9lb bream. Keen tench angler Dave Holland has still to open his account but caught one of the recently stocked mirrors weighing 8lb 9oz using float-fished maggots but also caught roach after roach throughout the day using this method.

Mark Sinclair visited Grace Lake where he went on to catch a 5lb 4oz tench using a maggot feeder. This intimate lake has been well stocked with both crucian carp and tench and offers a welcome change from the other more heavily fished venues.

A big ‘Thank you’ to all the members who turned up to help finish off the newly-installed otter fencing around Swan Lake. A working party will be held at Gingerbread Lake on 23-24 April to clear a route for the fencing to be installed there in May. The working party organisers would appreciate all the help they can get in completing this ambitious project on time. Anyone wishing to help should turn up on the day and, if possible, bring with them any suitable tools such as chainsaws, saws, spades, shovels and wheelbarrows. If time permits, it may be possible to carry out some other improvements to the lake.

Night permits holders are reminded that the deadline for the renewal of their permits is 30th April after which vacancies will be filled from the waiting list. Next season there will be no guest permits or casual night permits available. Also, please ensure that any cheques are made payable to ‘Biggleswade & Hitchin AA Limited’ and not abbreviated.
