Big chub to be found at Tempsford

Environment Agency fisheries officers recently conducted their annual test nettings on the River Ivel to monitor the biomass of the fish populations present at the various sites monitored. At one of the sites namely Ouse Farm, Tempsford, the officers netted a total of 32 chub including two immaculately conditioned specimens weighing 6lb 7oz and 6lb 8oz.

Anglers fishing at Gingerbread Lake have continued to produce some good results during the week with Kevin Barrable being the latest member to catch the Lookalike mirror weighing over 40lbs. Steve Curtin fished a single night catching three low double-figured mirrors plus several tench and bream. Another member banked, at least, two 20Lb plus carp fishing overnight too. Nick Baldwin had struggled to catch any of the lake’s big tench so decided on a change of tack so opted for some lure fishing. He caught a number of small jacks but then connected with a cracking 18lb 6oz pike.

Daryl Close caught a 19lb 12oz common carp whilst fishing at Swan Lake. Bob Kitchener thought he had hooked one of the lake’s big carp but was unlucky to find that actually he had foul-hooked a 25lb mirror. The fish was quickly returned and he was pleased to later catch a double-figured bream during his overnight stay. Mark Adams was one of the latest anglers to catch a tench around 3lbs from Swan Lake as they continue to turn up in increasing numbers.
