Cold weather continues but carp feeding well

Despite the cold unsettled weather, fish were feeding with some great catches made.

People who turned up to help clear a path for the otter fencing at Gingerbread Lake were allowed to fish overnight once work for the day had finished and several big carp were caught. Darren Coles landed a 37lb mirror carp closely followed by Mark Adams with a 35lb 4oz mirror. A third 30 was caught by Mick Usher weighing 30lb 4oz together with two smaller ones. Bailiff Luke Garner caught a 21lb 8oz mirror and one of the recently-stocked VS Fisheries, carp. The installation of the otter fencing will now take place at the end of May.

During the week, Nick Page caught a 28lb 10oz common fishing on top of a known bloodworm bed and was unlucky to lose another good fish. Craig Brooks has recently caught a 28lb common and a superb conditioned mirror weighing around 12lbs. Julian Barnes fished overnight into a hard early morning frost but was rewarded by catching the Lookalike mirror weighing 41lb 2oz at dawn. Several other anglers reported catching some of the newly-stocked VS mirrors and commons that seem to have settled in well.

Members fishing at Swan Lake have found the lake’s big carp to be more active during the daytime with Evan John catching mirrors weighing 34lbs, 30lbs and 28lbs on recent visits.
