Fantastic catches from our fisheries including a brace of 40s

Steve Briars went to Gingerbread Lake in search of roach and tench but decided to put out a spare rod baited with two small boilies. The roach were nowhere to be found but late in the afternoon his spare rod rattled off and, after a short fight, the mirror known as the Brown was nestling in his landing net and weighing in at 39lb 14oz. Adam Savage broke his personal best when he caught Moonscale weighing 43lb 8oz as the lake’s largest resident put in another appearance. The previous week Julian Barnes had banked the mirror known as the Lookalike at over 40lbs but this week he eclipsed this catch by banking two 40s within minutes of each other. The fish weighed 41lb 5oz and 40lb 4oz and is the first brace of 40s ever caught in a single session from the lake. He went on to catch another carp weighing 24lb 2oz and was unlucky to lose another good fish. Chairman Neil Sampson fished overnight catching a 30lb 8oz mirror which managed to weed itself before eventually being netted. Apart from carp, many tench and bream were caught as the water started to heat up.

Swan Lake has been fishing exceptionally well during the daytime too with several big fish being caught. Callum Sharp caught a 19lb common and Chris Hopkins landed a 25lb mirror. Richard Fosker caught a heavily scaled 24lb 8oz mirror in bright sunshine as well.

Congratulations to Paul Rudd for winning our photo competition for April with an array of big carp from Gingerbread Lake.
