Otter fencing for Gingerbread Lake

Work is due to start this week on the erection of an otter fence around the entirety of Gingerbread Lake and will be ongoing for several weeks thereafter. The lake will remain open for fishing throughout this work but members are asked to be tolerant to whatever disruption may be caused including the temporary closure of any swims in the work area. The task has been given absolute priority over other considerations by BHAA’s management board.

The lake’s carp have been showing signs of getting ready to spawn by chasing one another on the surface and near the marginal rushes. Chris Tysoe caught four carp during an evening session on floaters including two thirty pounders, the best weighing 38lbs. Tench and bream have been feeding well especially as the latter appear to have already spawned. Many of the tench being caught were males around the 5lb mark with just the odd female over 9lbs being caught. Matt Knowles had a 6lb 2oz tench on float-fished sweetcorn.

Sport at Swan Lake appears to have markedly slowed down no doubt attributable to carp getting ready to spawn. Bob Kitchener fished overnight catching a 13lb common but overall bites were hard to come by.

Robert Livock fished at McGregor Lake which has proved a difficult nut to crack during the daytime this year. He managed to catch a 7lb common and two chunky bream in the 2-3lb range.
