Warm weather keeps carp feeding

Bailiff Rich Holden decided to fish for a couple of hours after work and chose to try floater fishing after a hot day had brought a number of carp on to the surface. A couple of catapult full of mixers were fired out and, within minutes, carp started swirling at them. He cast to what appeared to be one of the better fish and it soon took his bait. It turned out to be Moonscale weighing 42lb 14oz. Another of the lake’s bailiffs, Derek Orchard caught a 24lb common as did Nick Page during a mid-week visit. Kevin Barrable had a 28lb mirror at the start of a two-night session. Craig Brooks continues to catch prolifically using Denham Baits’ Element boilies. His latest catches include commons weighing 26 and 24lbs and some smaller mirrors weighing 14lbs, 13lbs and 16lbs.

BHAA’s other big fish venue, Swan Lake, has been fishing well too with some more great catches. Karen Keeble caught one of the AJS stocked commons weighing an impressive 34lb 10oz. A new member Matthew Hawkes got off to a dream start by catching the mirror known as the Parrot weighing 29lb 12oz. Another member banked a 129lb 12oz carp within minutes of moving swim and was unlucky to lose another good fish. Alan Wilkie had a surprise catch when he caught a tench around 3lbs. Tench seemed to be getting established in this lake as immature fish have been netted recently too. Josh Swift had a great mixed bag of fish including perch, rudd and roach demonstrating just what a great all round fishery it is.

Laurie Graham fished overnight at McGregor Lake where he caught a chunky mirror carp weighing 17lbs. The fish fed in the late evening and made his trip worthwhile.
