Records continue to tumble

After last week’s record breaker from McGregor Lake, it was Swan Lake’s turn to grab the headlines. Lake regular Roy Keeble caught two big mirror carp with the fish weighing 35lb 11oz and 24lb 1oz. The larger of the two is probably a new lake record.

Andrew Mitchell has just begun fishing again at Gingerbread Lake after starting the new season at a nearby syndicate lake. He got off to a cracking start by catching the sought-after mirror known as ‘The Lookalike’ weighing 40lb 7oz and what’s more he caught it floater fishing. Leon Bagenal fished for over 24 hours without any action from the lake’s carp but then hooked two fish in quick succession weighing 27lb 10oz and 11lb 2oz. Trevor Odell fished overnight catching two carp, the best weighing 29lb 2oz. John Murphy has found no shortage of fish during his day visits to the lake where he has caught several carp during the week up to 19lb 14oz plus an 8lb tench.

Alan Wilkie followed in Fraser Hayden’s footsteps opting for an early visit to the Ouse at Tempsford where he caught two nice chub weighing 4lb 10oz and 4lb 6oz.

Following Dave Mutton’s recent successful talk to the local PAC meeting, overnight fishing events have been arranged at Dog Lane Fishery (CV47 8LT) on the following dates – 6th/7th August, 13th/14th August and 29th/21st August. Dave Mutton will be in attendance for help and advice. Anyone wishing to participate are asked to contact Val Tomlin at

Finally, congratulations to Paul Wixcey for winning the photo competition for June.
