Fantastic haul from Gingerbread Lake

The change to milder weather helped to make it a red-letter day for Russell Bonnett when he fished a day session at Gingerbread Lake. During his session, he banked three big carp two of which tipped 40lbs. They were the mirrors called the Clone weighing 40lb 12oz and Moonscale at 40lb 15oz. In addition, he caught another super looking mirror weighing 29lb 2oz. Another angler to catch was Nick (the Greek) Page who landed a mirror weighing in the low 20s.

Winston Pogmore made his first trip of the year to one of his favourite stretches of the River Ivel at Tempsford. He fed his swim with mashed up bread and ledgered cheese paste. A single bite was to produce a pristine 5lb 2oz chub.

In recent years, members have reported a decline in sport at the Links Pool so the board decided to carry out a test netting at the venue to assess what impact predatory otters had had on the fish stocks. The result was that not a single sizable fish of any species was caught indicating the devastating effect of otter predation on the fishery. Unfortunately, it was not possible to install fencing around the venue due to its proximity to the nearby golf course so, reluctantly, the board has decided not to renew its fishing licence for the venue at the end of this season.

The club is currently looking into the feasibility of developing another water as a potential mixed fishery so watch this space!
