The warm weather in the early part of the week caused Karl Franklin to decide to try floater fishing on McGregor Lake but a day of frustration avoiding the attention of gulls and waterfowl made him think he had employed the wrong tactics. However, late in the day his perseverance was rewarded when a take brought him an 11lb mirror carp. He returned later in the week to catch four more carp up to 14lb 15oz fishing on the bottom. Work pressures had meant that Dave Hallybone had little leisure time of late but he was finally able to get a day free to fish the lake where he managed to catch two nice carp, the best an 18lb mirror. Another member who normally targets the lake’s bream caught four carp up to 18lb 8oz using sweetcorn as bait. Paul Burton fished into the dark and was rewarded by catching two carp, mirrors weighing 13lb 12oz and 22lb 5oz.
At Gingerbread Lake only a small number of carp were caught during the week but Dave Holland was pleased to get off the mark float-fishing for his favourite species, tench. Dave caught two tench during the day, a 6lb1oz specimen and a smaller fish weighing 2lb 8oz. Dave said that he had caught several small tench during the previous summer months from 1lb upwards indicating that the species was reproducing well in the lake. His float-fishing tactics had also brought him a number of carp up to nearly 30lbs!
