An outstanding haul of fish was achieved by bailiff Simon Izzard during his latest session at Gingerbread Lake when he caught three large bream, two tench and no fewer than eleven carp. His carp included two 30s, mirrors weighing 36lb 10oz and 34lb 8oz, five 20s (both mirrors and commons) and four double-figured specimens. Simon used drop lead tactics to lessen the risk of fish becoming snagged in the thick weed growth. Members considering using this tactic are encouraged to use non-toxic weights to avoid the built up of lead on the lake’s bottom.
Paul Burton caught a 19lb mirror fishing at Swan Lake during an overnight visit. His method was to present a wafter boily in conjunction with a PVA bag of chopped freebies. Over the last weekend, the lake has been closed to enable a working party to remove bankside snags that have been causing several lost fish in recent weeks.
Sport has been a bit patchy on McGregor Lake with most action taking place at either end of the day. Nevertheless, anglers who have found the fish have often caught two or more carp in quick succession along with the odd bream or two.
A member was spotted leaving the main security gate to the Sandy fishery unlocked. he faces severe disciplinary action when the club’s bailiffs catch up with him as this was a deliberate act by the individual putting the fishery at risk and will not be tolerated.
