With water temperatures cooling to 5-6c, the chances of catching carp start to diminish but a few hardy souls proved that fish were still feeding in McGregor Lake. ‘Secret Steve’ Curtin spotted carp jumping alongside the long island and so he decided to fish there the next day. He was rewarded by catching a 19lb mirror carp. His next visit saw him fishing on the railway side of the lake where he banked another cracking carp, an 18lb 4oz mirror on a bitterly cold day. Bailiff Ian Fisher had a day session on the lake catching four carp up to 18lbs whilst another member caught two mirrors both around the 12lb mark.
Karl Franklin opted for a day on the nearby River Ivel when he adopted a roving approach moving from swim to swim in search of fish. He baited his line with float-fished bread flake and went on to catch two big chub both weighing exactly 5lbs each.
