The recent sequence of hard frosts was enough to stop fish feeding altogether but they had the reverse effect on fish in McGregor Lake with a number of multiple catches reported. Lake regular Robert Livock has caught many carp from the lake over the years but had not broken the 20lb mark. On his first day’s fishing of the week, he was soon into a nice carp that turned out to be an 18lb 4oz mirror. Later in the day, he followed this capture up with two more mirrors weighing 17lb 8oz and 19lb 8oz but as light faded, he decided to call it a day. However, a last-minute run brought him his best fish of the day, a 20lb 14oz mirror to finally get him that elusive 20 pounder. Later in the week, he added a nice 16lb 8oz mirror to his tally. Postman Dave Pegram had a three fish haul catching carp weighing up to 18lb 4oz and another angler, ‘Bait Boat’ Dave, caught four carp to over 19lbs. Paul Burton fished a one nighter to catch three carp weighing 10lb 2oz, 14lb 15oz and 15lb 2oz. Successful baits were dumbbell boilies and pellets fished close to the margins.
Nick Page returned to Gingerbread Lake where he caught a superbly conditioned 40lb mirror carp during the week whilst over at Swan Lake ‘Spodder’ Graham caught a 33lb carp during a three-night stay. Pike were very active as they hunted roach shoals throughout the day with the prospect of some good catches to come.
