BHAA’s still waters have exploded back into life with some super catches during the recent spell of milder weather. At Gingerbread Lake, at least, two carp over 40lbs have been caught together with another two carp exceeding 39lbs in addition to several other large carp. Most of the fish caught were named fished such as Moon Scale, the Big Linear and the Small Linear (33lbs).
A similar story has emerged from Swan Lake where Lee Allen caught four carp weighing up to 31lbs with, at least, two of the others in the mid-20s. One of the most amazing catches was made by David Flint-Cox who had a run within seconds of casting out. The culprit turned out to be a super 32lb mirror carp. Another crazy situation was experienced by Stephen Chessum who was night fishing at the lake when he had two runs simultaneously and found himself playing two fish at the same time. Eventually, he was able to land both fish, mirror carp weighing 32lbs and 25lbs. It was his 9th different carp over 30lbs from the lake this season and ended a long lean spell for him. Head Bailiff Derek Orchard got in on the action too when a 20lb carp had his reel handle churning round.
Day fishing on McGregor Lake was proving to be worthwhile too after many fruitless visits by members. Robert Livock caught a 10lb 8oz fully scaled mirror and returned later in the week to catch three more carp, the best weighing 13lbs. Another member reported catching a 25lb 9oz mirror during the daytime, one of the largest fish reported this season.
Members deciding to fish the lakes during the Covid19 epidemic are advised to take precautions to minimise the risk of infection such as fishing well apart from fellow anglers and using sanitizing measures when handling gate locks. When approaching other anglers please maintain a safe distance of, at least, two metres.
