News Update: 7th June 2020

Carp have continued to be caught throughout the past week from all of BHAA’s principal still waters.

At McGregor Lake, Lee Jakes upped his personal best by four pounds when he caught a 27lb mirror carp. Club Secretary Alan Davies caught three 20lb plus mirror carp in a day session each weighing just over 21lbs. Robert Livock was another angler to beat his personal best from the lake when he landed a 23lb 8oz mirror carp during a day visit and it produced his only run of the day. Alan Wilkie caught 4 double-figured carp during a day visit and three bream. Two of his carp exceeded 14lbs. Another member reported a catch of seven carp all weighing around 15lbs each. Yet another member reported catching a large eel on a citrus flavoured boilie and said that he had caught two more eels on previous visits.

The big linear mirror carp was caught by Graham Miles fishing at Swan Lake weighing 35lb 15oz. David Grant got off to a good start during his latest session by banking a 21lb mirror and added two good-sized tench later. Paul Burton fished a single overnight session as the temperature dropped but went on to catch a beautiful 14lb 13oz fully scaled mirror carp and a larger 26lb 3oz mirror. Paul Swift caught a scale-perfect 27lb 1oz common and a 20lb 2oz mirror carp during an overnight stay. Lastly, Stephen Chessum landed a 20lb 8oz mirror carp but was unlucky to lose a much heavier fish after playing it for nearly 20 minutes when a marauding pike bit through his line.

Richard Fosker has been enjoying some spectacular success fishing at Gingerbread Lake where he  caught two common carp weighing 32lb 4oz and 18lbs and three mirrors weighing 26lb 4oz, 17lbs and 28lb 7oz. Steve Curtin added another 20 to his list by catching a 21lb 6oz mirror carp.

Members are informed that locks on the Eaton Socon and Sandy fisheries will be changed in the evening of the 15th of June so, if you are fishing that day, please ensure you have the new key with you in order to exit in the evening. Also, combination locks have been fitted to the gates at both Lavendon and Harrold river stretches. Details of the lock combinations are available on Facebook or by contacting the membership secretary.
