News Update: 5th July 2020

Weed beds have reappeared at Swan Lake after being absent for several years following an algae bloom in the water that killed them off. Chris Jeffries followed up his capture of a 22lb mirror carp by catching a 20lb common carp during the day and added another 20 late into the evening. Anthony Pogmore was pleased to land a 19lb 8oz heavily scaled mirror carp which picked up his bait that was fished together with a PVA bag of crushed boilies. Paul Burton maintained his impressive haul of carp when he banked a 24lb 5oz mirror carp during a single night session. Another member reported catching a mirror carp known as ‘The Parrott’ weighing 31lbs.

Bream have been continuing to feed in the daytime at McGregor Lake with catches tending to come from the more popular swims that receive plenty of anglers’ bait, but carp proved to be elusive to anglers fishing during days apart from the odd small fish. Robert Livock managed to catch a 14lb mirror carp, but it was his only run of the day. Glenn Last maintained his run of fish when he banked a nice 14lb common carp on his latest visit. Later in the week, bailiff Stephen Chessum had a titanic struggle with a fish which turned out to be a new p.b. for him in the form of an immaculate 27lb mirror carp. His brother Tim was fishing in an adjacent and was gutted when his 18lb b.s. line parted shortly after hooking another leviathan. The two brothers fished on both managing to catch mirror carp each with Stephen’s fish a pristine ‘zip’ linear.
